Want to avoid surge pricing on Lyft in Denver? While there’s no magic trick, booking at smarter times definitely helps. It’s all about understanding Lyft’s pricing and lower demand periods.

I drove for Lyft for more than 5 years, and here is my cheat sheet for the cheapest rides, guaranteed:

Off-Peak is Your Friend

When are most people not trying to get a Lyft? That’s your best bet for lower fares! Usually, it is busy between 5 AM and 9 AM during the work week in Denver and from 3 PM to 6 PM during rush hour.

Also, there’s typically a high peak in demand around 9 PM to 11 PM, around bar closing times. That being said, it is better to avoid these hours.

Plan Your Weekend Wisely

When there aren’t many events happening in town on the weekend, demand is usually normal and fares are low. The problem arises when there’s an event in town, and things go south.

Last weekend, we had the crypto convention, and fares went through the roof. Usually, Sundays are slow in general.

Have Two Apps Running

Having two apps running is a good practice. If you have Lyft, download the Uber app. As a driver, I’ve noticed a relationship between these two apps when monitoring fares in the same zone you are in.

Even if you are loyal to one app, having both increases your chances of getting a better fare.

Denver Airport: Cheapest Rides

If you are traveling to and from Denver Airport, be aware of rush hour: 4 AM to 9 AM for departures and 9 PM to 12 AM for arrivals. Denver Airport is one of the largest nationwide, so the chance of encountering surge pricing is high.

I recommend utilizing public transportation for the best deal. I’ve seen people take the train to exit the airport and then request their Lyft ride from the nearest location. This can save you money.
