Cherry Creek State Park is the closest thing Denver has to a beach. The 880-acre reservoir offers a designated swim beach, boat rentals, waterskiing, and over 12 miles of trails. It's a full-day destination for water lovers, just 20 minutes from downtown.

What to Do
Swim Beach: Sandy beach with lifeguards from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Bring chairs, umbrellas, and coolers. No glass allowed.
Boating: Full-service marina with boat rentals including pontoons, kayaks, and paddleboards. Bring your own boat using the launch ramp.
Fishing: Excellent walleye, bass, and trout fishing. License required. Fish from shore or rent a boat.
Trails: 12+ miles of paved and unpaved trails for biking, running, and horseback riding. The loop around the reservoir is about 8 miles.
Know Before You Go
Arrive early: The park fills up on hot summer weekends. Gates may close when capacity is reached.
Bring cash: Entry fee is per vehicle. Annual passes pay for themselves in 8 visits.
Pro Tip: For less crowded beach time, go on weekday mornings. The west entrance is closer to the swim beach and marina.
