Washington Park - "Wash Park" to locals - features two scenic lakes connected by a creek and surrounded by mature trees. Grasmere Lake and Smith Lake offer paddleboating, fishing, and picture-perfect walking loops. This is Denver's most beloved neighborhood park.
Washington Park Lakes
Denver's Classic Urban Oasis
The Two Lakes
Grasmere Lake (North): The larger of the two, with the historic boathouse. Paddleboat rentals available in summer. Great for walking around and people-watching.
Smith Lake (South): Quieter and more natural feeling. Popular with anglers fishing for bass and bluegill. Connected to Grasmere by a small creek.
Activities
The Loop: The 2.6-mile paved path is perfect for running, walking, or biking. Counterclockwise is the unwritten rule. Gets crowded on nice weekends.
Paddleboating: Rent pedal boats at the Grasmere boathouse from May through September. First-come, first-served.
Flower Gardens: The formal gardens near Smith Lake are stunning in summer. Replica of Mount Vernon's gardens.
Pro Tip: Parking is tough on weekends. Park on the residential streets south of the park and walk in. Or bike - there are racks throughout.
