Confluence Park

Where Denver Began

Confluence Park marks the spot where Cherry Creek flows into the South Platte River—and where Denver was founded in 1858. Today it's a hub for trails, urban kayaking, and people-watching, with the REI flagship store as its anchor.

The Trails

This is where Denver's major trail systems converge. The Cherry Creek Trail heads southeast toward Cherry Creek Reservoir. The South Platte Trail runs north toward Adams County and south toward Chatfield. Pick a direction and go.

Urban Kayaking

The confluence features man-made rapids perfect for urban kayaking. Rent gear at the REI across the street or bring your own. Watching from the banks is free entertainment.

History & Location

Gold prospectors founded Denver here in 1858. Today the park sits in the heart of the revitalized Platte Valley, surrounded by restaurants, breweries, and the Children's Museum.

Pro Tip: Start a Cherry Creek Trail bike ride here and end at the reservoir—about 15 miles one way. Or just grab a bench and watch the kayakers tackle the rapids.
