Washington Park—"Wash Park" to locals—is Denver's crown jewel. 165 acres of manicured lawns, two lakes, historic flower gardens, and the city's most popular running loop. On any given weekend, you'll find half of Denver here.
Washington Park
Denver's Beloved Classic
The Loop
The 2.6-mile paved loop around the park is Denver's most popular running and biking route. Stay to the right, follow traffic flow, and expect company. Early mornings and late evenings are less crowded.
The Lakes
Smith Lake: The larger northern lake. Paddle boats available in summer. Great for picnics along the shore.
Grasmere Lake: Southern lake with beautiful views. The boathouse area is a popular gathering spot.
Gardens & Recreation
The historic flower gardens near the recreation center are stunning in summer. Tennis courts, a recreation center with pool, and multiple playgrounds round out the amenities.
Pro Tip: Parking fills up fast on nice weekends. Arrive before 9am or park on the surrounding residential streets. The South Gaylord Street shops are a short walk away.
