From Denver Airport to Union Station: A Quick Transit Guide

Denver Airport to Union Station using public transit is a cheap and affordable option. If you are picking up your luggage on the fifth floor, head out to the south side of the building.

Follow the signs for “Transit Center” or “Trains to City.” They will guide you through the Jeppesen Terminal to the south end of the airport, right by the Westin Hotel.

Take the escalator down to Level 1 from luggage claim(level 5) to reach the Transit Center, and you’ll quickly spot the Denver Airport Station.

Travel Tip: Look for clear signage—and if you’re ever unsure, ask an airport staff member (they usually wear yellow vests)

Buying Your Ticket

At the station, you’ll find easy-to-use ticket vending machines. Purchase a day pass for the A Line, which costs about $10, and it covers your ride to Union Station and free transfers on RTD for the day. Alternatively, use the RTD mobile app if you prefer a digital ticket.

Boarding the A Line

Step onto the platform and board the train bound for Union Station. The train offers level boarding with plenty of space for luggage and even has designated spots for wheelchairs.

Trains run every 15 minutes during peak times (every 30 minutes late at night), and the journey takes roughly 37 minutes.

Travel Tip: Choose a window seat for a chance to catch scenic views of Denver’s skyline and distant mountains.

Arriving at Union Station

During your ride, the train makes a few short stops at suburban stations, but most riders stay on board.

When the train pulls into Union Station, you’ve arrived in downtown Denver. Union Station isn’t just a transit hub—it’s a lively spot filled with restaurants, cafes, and shops. It’s an ideal place to grab a coffee or explore the surrounding neighborhood.

Travel Tip: If you need to head further downtown, look for the free bus service available on the west side of Union Station on 16th Street.

Also, it is important not to fall asleep, because you don’t want to miss your station. Sometimes, as a driver for hire myself, I pick up riders from the west side of Denver because they missed their stop.
