Idaho Springs sits right on I-70, making it the first real mountain town Denver visitors encounter. Just 30 miles from Denver, it serves as a gateway to the ski resorts while offering its own attractions—hot springs, historic downtown, and access to Mount Evans.
The Indian Hot Springs have drawn visitors since the 1860s. Historic Miner Street features locally-owned shops, restaurants, and the famous Beau Jo's pizza. The Argo Gold Mine offers tours of one of Colorado's most productive gold operations.
Mount Evans Scenic Byway, the highest paved road in North America, starts here. In summer, you can drive to 14,130 feet. The town also connects to Central City via the infamous Oh My God Road.
